Pentagon: Russia's role in Syria has become more constructive
A spokesman for the Ministry of defence of the USA Peter Cooke at a press conference on Tuesday stated that Russia's role in Syria, according to U.S. authorities, was "more constructive than ever before".
"Clearly, they (Russia — approx. ed.) focused more on DAYS. We think that's good. We encouraged it from the beginning,"said cook.
In reply to specifying question of the journalist, considers whether the Pentagon is currently Russia's role in Syria constructive, cook said: "It is more constructive than before."
The representative of the American Ministry of defense also recalled the need to reach a political settlement to the Arab Republic, which, he said, needed "change of the regime (Syrian President Bashar) Assad".
"No one has greater influence on the Assad regime than Russia, and we hope that she will use it constructively" — he said.
Earlier, Washington has repeatedly called on Russia to "play a more constructive role" in resolving the conflict in Syria and fighting terrorists, DAYS.
